Media frenzy over Jessica Simpson’s weight gain

Americans’ obsession with all things celebrity has finally spiraled out of control. Last week Jessica Simpson debuted her fuller figure at Kiss County Chili Cookout in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Although Simpson’s body has definitely changed she since infamously donned a pair of skin-tight daisy dukes for the movie “Dukes of Hazard,” she is in no way obese. However, a majority of the news media began to criticize Simpson for her weight gain, and the New York Post even published a cartoon poking fun at the singer.

What kind of example are we setting for younger generations if we constantly scruntize and demean celebrities for gaining a couple of pounds? We are establishing expectations that are not only impossible but dangerous to achieve.

  1. I think we all agree we deman celebrities for gaining a few pounds. However, we all continue to buy the magazines/newspapers that print this trash!
